San Marcos

San Marcos is a city located in Hays County, Texas, United States. The city's boundaries also extend into Guadalupe and Caldwell counties. The town is part of the Austin-Round Rock metroplex. It is situated on Interstate 35 between Austin and the southern Texas cities of San Antonio and Round Rock. The population of San Marcos is approximately 47,000 people. The city is home to several higher education institutions, including the fourth-largest university in Texas, as well as Gary Job Corps, an education and career technical training program. The population of San Marcos is growing at a rapid pace, and the local economy is experiencing a strong recovery.

The town's economy has changed since its early days. While cotton and cattle production provided the local economy, educational opportunities soon came to the city. In 1903, the Southwest Texas State Normal School and San Marcos Baptist Academy were established, helping to establish the town's education industry. In the 1920s, the city counted over 4,000 residents, and by the 1940s, the population had increased to about five hundred people.
